Celebrating High-Immunity Schools

Vernal, UT – 

Following the recent measles outbreak that impacted our region, the TriCounty Health Department (TriCHD) wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the residents of the Uintah Basin. Our community has shown incredible resolve, with families, schools, and local healthcare providers rallying together to protect our most vulnerable children.

This collaborative effort was essential in managing a response that saw 80 confirmed measles infections earlier this year. Our community came together to help mitigate a highly infectious disease that can lead to serious complications and hospitalizations.

Celebrating Our High-Immunity Schools

We are proud to highlight several schools that have achieved over 95% adequate immunization against childhood diseases. Reaching this "gold standard" provides critical herd immunity, which serves as a powerful barrier against the spread of measles and other vaccine-preventable illnesses.

The following schools have met or exceeded this 95% threshold:

  • Uintah High School
  • Uintah Middle School
  • Vernal Middle School
  • Roosevelt Jr. High
  • Manila Elementary
  • Ashley Valley Education Center
  • Eagle View School

Achieving this level of protection ensures that these schools are safer environments for learning and significantly reduces the likelihood of future disease outbreaks and disruptions.

An Important Warning and Call to Action

While we celebrate these successes, we must also share a supportive warning for our broader community. Schools not included on the list above currently fall below the recommended 95% herd immunity threshold.

Schools with lower coverage remain at risk for preventable disease outbreaks.
