Teen Programs

TriCounty Health Department recognizes that creating a healthy future for the community begins with investing in the youth. The Health Promotion division offers two  programs with different focuses for teens throughout the Uintah Basin.

That's why our Health Educators run programs aimed at connecting with teens by providing fun activities that teach them life skills.

Real World Ready (RWR)

Real World Ready is a free, interactive, after-school program for teens ages 13 and up. Through hands-on activities, participants learn practical life skills such as changing a tire or sewing on a button, while also developing important social-emotional skills like decision-making, goal-setting, and problem-solving.

Real World Ready sessions are led by educators from TriCounty Health and USU Extension, providing a supportive, fun environment where teens can gain confidence and learn skills they’ll use for life. Real World Ready is an open group that meets once a week during the school year and is open students in Duchesne and Uintah counties.

Please see our calendar for meeting information.

Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT)

The Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) Program is a peer-to-peer prevention program for high school students who want to make a positive impact in their schools and communities.

SWAT members lead clubs at their schools and partner with TriCounty Health Educators to design and carry out substance-use prevention projects. Through education, advocacy, and student leadership, SWAT helps reduce tobacco and other substance use among youth.

In addition to prevention efforts, SWAT students also promote mental health, overall wellness, and healthy decision-making.

Students who participate in SWAT gain valuable leadership experience and have access to unique opportunities, including:

  • Attending an annual leadership summit in Bryce Canyon

  • Visiting the state Capitol

  • Earning scholarships in recognition of their work and involvement

SWAT empowers students to lead, educate, and inspire healthier choices — both for themselves and for others.
